I know I'm being cryptic, but you guys will know what I mean soon enoughįurthermore, I've actually made 4 different branches of the R'llyan civilisation. However, I've made some changes to the formula to make the R'llyan Purist Consciousness more Lovecraftian-like, so the race would act the part better. Basically, everyone was either pathetic or inferior compared to it and the few 'equivalent' races started seeing it as a threat. My first playtest saw the R'llyans conquering multiple races and becoming a threat to the entire known galaxy even before the big 2300. Before writing this, I've been testing and tweaking the race to be used. Hi, thanks for reading! As you guys may know, this is a Lovecraftian AAR that I've been working on. Insanity and suffering will be the lot of the insects that would stand in our way! We will rise once more, and take back what was once ours. Until one fateful day when we awoke once more, insects no longer, when our Consciousness was re-established, billions of beings strong, through technology and spirituality bled from our raw tentacles. For we cannot believe ourselves to have become like one of the countless insects of this galaxy. We slept most of the time, letting time while away at our mortal wounds. Millions of years were spent eking out an existence, rebuilding cities under the ocean, drifting, sleeping. If other fragments of the once Great Consciousness remained, we could not hark nor ken nor see. The many had torn themselves apart, burnt cities to the ground to cope, leaving but the few strongest minds remaining. Even then, R'llyeh, the homeworld of the Gods – Us – Did not go unscathed. Leaving but a few planets – If even that – Still within our grasp. One by one, the light of of the R'llyans flickered out on our worlds, thoughts forever gone. The stronger ones dispatched ships, tried to communicate through the archaic methods, tried to get everything under control, but the centre cannot hold. Our entire existence was plunged into paralysis as we R'llyans, individuals once more, tore ourselves and each other apart.

Thousands of worlds, gripped by insanity. Thousands of worlds! Plunged into chaos! A thousand worlds, isolated once more! We are used to the Consciousness, and to lose it after millions of years of interconnectedness. But what was certain was the chaos that followed. Up to this day, with millions of years of meditation, we still could not fathom what had happened.Īn alien weapon, a virus, an unprecedented thought-infiltration – They were all equally likely. Not only did the abominable insects started pushing back and winning, but we lost our Great Consciousness. We feel it still as if it was a fresh occurence. There were some like us, existing on the other side of the galaxy, existing on the fringes, and even more troubling, outside of it and the fabric of reality itself – But it was a matter of time before these insects were crushed beneath the weight of our thoughts.Īnd then it began happening. The most chaotic insanity was the lot of the insects that resisted, serenity ours. We forced our bodies to evolve with our minds, and we forced other races out of the way, out of existence as we took the galaxy. A united consciousness, thinking as one, each R'llyan a neuron, our entire race a brain. Slowly but surely, just as we expanded the horizon of our spatial territory, we expanded the reach of our mind. We began communing with one another, not with words, but with the very raw energies of our minds. Our minds sharpened.īut unlike the countless insects of this galaxy, our minds were sharp like nano-scalpels.

Like the countless insects of this galaxy, of this universe, we were once insignificant spawns of a single planet – Hopelessly isolated from one another, chaotic and self-defeating. Prologue: From the Infinite Depths of Time and Space
